Orthopaedics & Joint Care.
Assessment and treatment for bones, joints and injuries — from fractures and plaster care to arthroscopy and joint replacement surgery.

Movement is part of everyday life. Restoring it deserves careful thought.
Orthopaedic care at City Care Hospital is led by Dr. Kedar Jagtap, Consultant Orthopaedic & Joint Replacement Surgeon. Treatment always begins with a careful assessment and a clear explanation of the options — including non-surgical approaches where they are appropriate.

How a joint works.
A joint is where two bones meet. Their ends are covered by smooth cartilage that lets them glide; in the knee, two C-shaped menisci cushion the bones, and ligaments hold the joint steady.
Wear, injury or inflammation can damage these structures, causing pain, stiffness and swelling. Treatment depends on which part is affected and how much — which is why careful assessment comes first.
When joint pain needs assessmentSigns worth discussing.
If you notice any of these, consider an orthopaedic consultation. After a serious injury, seek emergency care.
- Joint pain lasting more than a few weeks, or pain that disturbs sleep
- Swelling, stiffness or reduced range of movement
- A joint that locks, catches or gives way
- Difficulty walking, climbing stairs or gripping
- Pain, swelling or deformity after a fall or accident
- Back or neck pain with numbness, tingling or weakness in the limbs
A note on outcomes
Every patient and every condition is different. No surgical procedure can be guaranteed to succeed, and your surgeon will discuss the expected benefits, risks and recovery before you decide on treatment. There is no on-site ambulance or blood bank at the hospital; for serious accidents, dial 108.
Do I always need surgery for joint pain?
No. Many joint problems are managed with medicines, physiotherapy, weight management and activity changes. Surgery is considered when it is likely to help and other measures have not been enough.
What is arthroscopy?
Arthroscopy is keyhole surgery using a small camera inserted through tiny incisions. It can be used to examine and treat certain problems inside a joint. Whether it is suitable depends on your condition.
What should I bring to my orthopaedic appointment?
Bring previous X-rays, MRI or CT reports (and films or discs if you have them), prescriptions, a list of current medicines and any discharge summaries. Wear clothing that allows the affected joint to be examined easily.
How long is recovery after joint replacement?
Recovery varies with the joint, your general health and your rehabilitation. Your surgeon and physiotherapist will explain what to expect in your case.
