Make the most of your time with the doctor.
- 01
Note your symptoms
When they started, how often they occur and what makes them better or worse.
- 02
Bring your readings
Home blood-sugar or blood-pressure records, with dates and times.
- 03
List all medicines
Including doses, supplements and any medicines you have recently stopped.
- 04
Ask about fasting
Check by phone whether you should fast before any blood tests.
How often should my diabetes be reviewed?
This depends on your treatment and how well your sugar levels are controlled. Your doctor will recommend a review schedule and which tests to repeat.
Should I check my blood pressure at home?
Home readings can be helpful when taken correctly with a validated device. Ask your doctor whether home monitoring suits you and how to record readings.
Can I stop my medicines once readings are normal?
Please do not stop or change medicines without speaking to your doctor. Normal readings often mean the treatment is working.
When is a symptom an emergency?
Chest pain, sudden breathlessness, weakness or numbness on one side, difficulty speaking, confusion or fainting need emergency care. Dial 108 or 112 immediately.
